Phi Gamma Hall Oxford College of Emory University

Phi Gamma Hall is the oldest buildiing owned by Emory University. It was built in 1851 and was used as a hospital during the Civil War. It is located on the Oxford College campus.

We were asked to investigate the cause of a serious sag in the ceiling. Upon inspection, we determined that one of the heavy timber queenpost trusses had been seriously damaged at both ends by water damage from leaking chimney flashing.

David Fischetti, PE designed the timber truss repair and we carried out the work using traditional timber framing methods over the course of a couple of very hot weeks in the summer of 2010.

Our scope of work included all the shoring and jacking work as well as the traditional timber frame carpentry repairs.

Sunbelt Builders was the General Contractor for the project.
